Helping you in your journey to be confident at the dentist.

Thousands of people all over the world suffer from some degree of dental phobia or anxiety.

At Shepperton Dental we are proud of our experience and success in helping nervous patients become confident about attending the dentist. Dr Pardeep has a diploma in conscious sedation and is experienced when it comes to anxiety.

Even our most anxious patients have been won over by our successful blend of compassionate calming skills and specific training. Taking the time to understand your concerns and giving you a sense of control allows us to transform dental anxiety into a happy, healthy, pain-free future for many of our patients.

We understand how hard it is making the initial phone call and crossing the threshold. However, once you have done this, you will find a warm and supportive welcome from the whole team. Just let us know you’re anxious before you arrive. If you prefer, you can just sit away from the surgery and discuss your concerns. You set the pace at every stage. We then take you step by step slowly through the whole process whenever you are happy to do so. We can arrange an appointment by giving oral health advice only to make you feel comfortable.

Whatever the reason you are nervous of the dentist, it is important that you feel that the staff of a dental practice understands your fears and will treat you kindly and considerately.

As dental professionals we believe in preventative dental care and encourage our patients to bring their children to the practice from an early age. Regular check-ups from a young age will ensure children don't suffer from untreated dental decay with devastating effects to their growing dentition. There are a number of preventative treatments that our team can provide for children:

  1. Fluoride applications are a safe and effective way to safeguard your child's growing teeth from developing decay. The fluoride is painted onto the surface of the teeth, helping to mineralise them.

  2. Tooth-coloured fissure sealants are applied to the biting surfaces of children's teeth to prevent decay.

  3. Studies have shown that the younger your child is when attending their first dental appointment, even if just for a check-up, the more likely they are to have a positive experience and to grow up unafraid of the dentist. Our team will take special care of your child to make them feel safe and cared for.

  4. Treating a child from a young age also allows the dentist to spot early signs of underbites, cross bites or overbites developing. As with most dental problems, the sooner you can start to treat it, the quicker it can be resolved.

Prevention is always better than cure, so call the practice today to make an appointment for your child.

Life Benefits

  • Healthy teeth and gums for life.

  • Reduced risk of developing tooth decay and reduced need for fillings.

  • No fears or phobias of the dentist.

If you prefer not to be aware of the procedures we are able to offer expert sedation using Sedationists/Anaesthetists.

Safe sedation can be offered for any of our dental treatments. It is a technique that reduces anxiety and minimises any discomfort during your dental treatment. It is different from general anaesthetic – you will remain conscious, although you may fall asleep as you become more relaxed. A small plastic cannula is put in the back of your hand and two medicines are administered for the sedation. This combination of medicines gives good control of the level of sedation.

There are other ways of relieving anxiety including a mild sedative tablet taken beforehand, or a local anaesthetic cream on the back of the hand.

This method of sedation is designed to be a very safe procedure. We always work with qualified Sedationists/Anaesthetists. If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to ring and ask, we are only a step away from helping you achieve happiness through healthy teeth and gums - for life!
